Growing up in the early 90’s, there weren’t very many images, toys or animated films that I could find my reflection in. Nor was there representation of melanated women who were intelligent, soft, elegant and loved activities un-stereotypical of black culture.

At first I tried to assimilate to these images but realized over time that they weren’t created with inclusion in mind. Finally tired of the narrative, I followed God’s prompting and started to create my own images - melanated women enjoying activities and lifestyles that were “outside of the box” American culture confined them to.

As a melanated feminine woman and artist who loves period dramas, hiking, water activities, and thrill-seeking adventures, I am not embarrassed or ashamed to be me. And nor need you be!

I am unabashedly me and my hope is that my artwork inspires you to be Unabashedlyou!
